“Nearly 40 percent of individuals living in nursing homes are there because low vision makes it difficult for them to live safely and independently in their homes,” Lauren White, President and CEO of NewView Oklahoma, said. “With this generous grant from the Home Instead Foundation, we can help older Oklahomans retain their most precious possession—their independence.

The $10,000 grant will allow NewView Oklahoma to help an estimated 100 older Oklahomans with low vision. Through the Aging in Place program, clients work with a certified occupational therapist who trains them in adaptive techniques and use of technology to accomplish daily tasks and travel safely inside and outside the home.

“Our missions are very similar to NewView Oklahoma, as we both help enhance the lives of older adults,” said Roger H. Baumgart, Executive Director of The Foundation. “We are pleased to provide grant funding to NewView Oklahoma for making a positive difference in the safety, well-being and independence of our seniors.”

Sue Loftis and David Loftis, owners of the Oklahoma City franchise of Home Instead Senior Care, presented the check.

NewView Oklahoma – formerly Oklahoma League for the Blind – is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1949 with a mission to empower people who are blind and visually impaired to achieve their maximum level of independence through employment, rehabilitation and community outreach. For more than 60 years, NewView Oklahoma has been a life-changing source of hope and empowerment for Oklahomans living with blindness and visual impairment.

In 1994, Lori and Paul Hogan founded Home Instead Senior Care, an international company of independently owned and operated franchises, to provide non-medical care for seniors. As a means to further enhance the lives of older adults, going above and beyond the scope of this organization, The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation was established in 2003.

The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation has awarded more than 100 grants throughout the United States and Canada since 2004. To learn more about The Foundation, visit www.homeinsteadseniorcarefoundation.org.
