The funds will go to purchasing optometric and specialized low vision equipment for the clinic.

“We are very grateful to Impact Oklahoma for their support in establishing a low vision clinic,” Lauren White, President and CEO of NewView Oklahoma said. “Today, these services are virtually nonexistent in the state. With Impact Oklahoma’s support, we can ensure that thousands of Oklahomans remain independent regardless of vision loss.”

One in six Oklahomans over the age of 55 has low vision caused by an age-related eye disease. Low vision, defined as vision that cannot be corrected with glasses or surgery, can have a severe impact on a person’s quality of life, but that can be mitigated by a low vision clinic that helps clients to maximize their usable vision.

The low vision clinic will enable NewView Oklahoma to conduct detailed low vision exams. The patient information from the exams will be used to provide follow-up vision rehabilitation that will keep Oklahomans with low vision safe and living independently.

Impact Oklahoma, Inc. is a community of women devoted to impacting central Oklahoma by funding charitable organizations working in the areas of family, health and wellness, community, education and culture. In seven years, Impact Oklahoma has given nearly $1.75 million to Oklahoma nonprofits.

NewView Oklahoma – formerly Oklahoma League for the Blind – is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1949 with a mission to empower people who are blind and visually impaired to achieve their maximum level of independence through employment, rehabilitation and community outreach. For more than 60 years, NewView Oklahoma has been a life-changing source of hope and empowerment for Oklahomans living with blindness and visual impairment.
